Abington inv performance list

This meet generally has a lot of great performances throughout the years, most notably two years ago when Magaha broke the State record in 1:48. I expect this year to be just like the rest in terms of the 800m: Fast.

There are a lot of big names on the list for this 800, but ultimately this is how I see it playing out. Kyle Francis being Kyle Francis and leading it out in around 53 low. I expect Kevin Moy and Ramsey Kerkula to take it out with him the first 200 and come in around 54 mid. In the chase pack will be Steve Thompson, Eric Stratman, Soham Kamat, Seamus Collins, and Evan Emmanuel in around 56. Russell in around 57. Francis creates a big gap with 300 to go and puts on the burners. Moy and Kerkula go at it, but are dying because of the fast starting pace. In the chase pack, Thompson, Stratman, Kamat, Collins, Emmanuel, and Russell are all gaining ground on them with 250 to go. Russell makes a big move and is in fourth now with 150 to go, Stratman, Kamat, and Thompson go with with him. Emmanuel and Collins fall off a bit. Francis takes the win and 2-5 are all about a second from each other. Here's how I see the rest of the heat going.

Kyle Francis- 1:51.76
Kevin Moy- 1:55.95
Ramsey Kerkula- 1:56.35
Tony Russell- 1:56.55
Soham Kamat- 1:56.68
Eric Stratman- 1:57.04
Steve Thompson- 1:58.95
Evan Emmanuel- 1:59.01
Seamus Collins- 1:59.34

It wouldn't surprise me if Andrew Marston and Greg Dix snuck into this group as well from the next to hot heat. I can see both going around 1:59 low.

The 1600 is certainly way less stacked, but we get to see Kardish and the Kazanjian brothers go at it. It'll be good to see how their miles go to see what kind of shape they're in. Not very knowledgeable on this Kyle Kroon kid, but from a little research he's a sick 3200m runner and has some nice mile/800 speed to go with it. I see the race ending something like...

Kyle Kroon- 4:17.42
Chris Kazanjian- 4:22.54
Jilian Degroot-Lutzner-4:23.45
Christian Kardish- 4:24.97
Matt Kazanjian- 4:25.64

The 3200 is really the Delaware show. Not sure why Garrett is running it again but he will easily take the win. It appears as though Jack Hagood is there solely to pace Ben Boswell and maybe Michael Flanagan. Marston is in it, but it's 30 minutes after the 800 so I'm not sure why really. Maybe he will use it just to get some extra distance in or turn the day into a workout day. I can't imagine him going too much under 10 though under those circumstances. The race isn't exactly stacked though, so he could still place top 5.

Stephen Garrett- 9:30.55
Jack Hagood- 9:45.53
Ben Boswell- 9:45.59
Michael Flanagan- 9:47.42
Andrew Marston- 9:58.35

This meet is really all about the 800. I expect fast fast times, especially since it's at night under the lights. Not sure how wind is going to be there, but I don't expect it to be too out of hand.

  1. This is a perfect 800 for the Henderson gang, Francis will take it out and be another perfect rabbit for them. The only difference being he's not going to step off the track at the 600 mark.

  2. This 800 should be awesome. It was a surprise to see WCH making the trip and the big guns going in the 800. As far as predictions, let’s give it a try.

Francis – 1:51.7, good call by RTJ, he should be fired up with this solid field.
Russell – 1:53.2, I know he’s never been call a ‘speed guy’, but with a sub 4:10 mile split he’s got to have something.
Moy – 1:54.8, if he’s 100%, no reason to think he won’t be pulled to a nice PR.
Kerkula – 1:54.9, should get a nice PR in this race too.
    Barchet – 1:56.3
    Stratman – 1:56.5
Emmanuel – 1:56.8, somebody else has to break up the WCH pack
    Thompson – 1:57.2
    Collins – 1:57.4

  4. the race went out in 57 with kevin moy taking the lead half way through the first lap, Francis Russell and Thompson all negative splitted, i dont have all of the details, Russell was next to Francis until the last 100, which was expected. it wasnt the right race to run fast i guess. no one took it out

  5. What a dud that race was. Better coaching would have prevented it from going tactical, it's not like they were fighting for points at a dual meet or going for a state medal.

    1. Probably everyone was expecting Francis to just take over from the gun and he was thinking otherwise, which made the whole race tentative in the first 300. If it doesn't get out decently any hope of low times is pretty much gone.

  7. Why doesn't everybody go and bring their comments over to etrains blog. Now that he enabled instant commenting theres no reason not to. His posts are much more frequent and better than this blog. Forrest is gone. The only reason anyone checks this blog is because everyone comments here. Bottom line: etrains blog is superior and people should comment there, not here.

    1. Are you sure he fixed his commenting section? Before he had to approve them so nothing posted until he was able to review them. if someone posted results live from a meet they might not hit the site for 10 hours. Same if you asked a question, it might take a day to get there.

    4. The fact that you are posting this on his blog says a lot! Etrain is obviously great, but Forrest already told everyone how much he respects Etrain! He was taking on the role when Etrain left! He's been doing a really great job in my opinion! Have some respect! Go Forrest...and don't just take this!

    5. I'm going to thank you on Forrest's behalf, but it was me that posted that comment about links earlier. He makes good points and if Etrain is blogging daily, why not share the love. However, I'll try and keep posts on this for as long as I can since I gave Forrest my word that I would help him out. I'll try and post more often, I apologize for my sporadic posts.

  9. Forrest has kept Etrains legacy going, and RTJ has been instrumental too. They've done a great job. As a big fan of the sport I'm grateful to the three of them for their knowledge, research and for creating a forum that lets running freaks like me to post our thoughts,,, most of which aren't even close to as on point as those three.

With Penn Relays and the championship season just a few weeks away there's a lot to kick around coming up!

    1. With six guys in the hot heat why didn't you have one of them take it out hard in 55. If Francis wasn't in front after the first turn there should have been a plan for someone else to step up. That race should have been epic.

    2. Diestelow destroyed at the Rustin Invitational, hitting the district qualify marks in both the 1600 and 3200. He could be the next dominant runner out of WCE.

    3. Guess he decided to quit baseball this year. 4:25/ 9:46 double at Rustin is impressive.

  10. Etrain's new blog is so much more in depth than it used to be so it takes a lot more time to read it. Seems it's mostly about the comments anyway no matter which site you read. Plus Etrain throws in college and world info. Etrain is a great read but let's keep PA Don't Play alive and keep everybody on the same page. Maybe ask Etrain to throw some comments down here. Thanks Forrest, for continuing the legacy and thanks RTJ for stepping up as well. We're coming into the best part of the season, so let's keep it going strong. Rock on!

  11. For those running at the penn relays, will there performance suffer if they run hard back to back weeks. Just curious.

  13. What happened to Brehm, are those rumors true?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Rumors of injury are probably unfounded, his school doesn't look to have a very big indoor program, which would leave him behind the competition in April. He's at about the same point now that he was last year and he came on awfully strong in mid-May. Expect the same this year. - JEB

    2. Brehm did look tight in his races. Possible injury the rest of us don't know about? Entirely possible.

    3. That 4:09 mile last year must have been incredible, that's a 4:07.5 1600. He's never broken 4:20 before or since. That's like someone who never broke 5:00 going 4:29, and then never breaking 5:00 again. Crazy.

      Delete
    4. To be fair, he ran 4:13 but was DQ'd. So it wasn't as big of PR as it shows up as.

    5. DQ'd for what?

    6. District 3 mile last year. He won the race but was DQ'd for a pass he made on the inside with about 300 to go.
