PA now has 3 teams under the 8 minute mark for the 4x800! Pennsbury followed up their 7:57 with a blazing 7:52.46 to take 5th place overall. According to Milesplit's twitter account, Pennsbury's splits were 2:00.67, 1:57.61 (Webb), 2:01.74, and 1:52.61 (Sauer)... Unreal. Sauer just PR'd or got very close to his PR of 1:52.9 from outdoor states, indoors, at the end of January. After a tough XC season Sauer is out to prove himself and he is bringing his team with him. Pennsbury's 4x800 is clearly the top in the state as Penncrest finished 7th overall with the time of 7:56.90. Pennsbury has 4 seconds on them, which to me means they could get away with doubling Sauer back from the 800 and Webb back from the 3k and still compete for the win. I think Penncrest’s names are mixed up. It says that Hanna led off in 1:58.3, but that was most likely Kamat with Hanna running 2:02.24 on the 3rd leg, which is an improvement for both runners. Emanuel was also probably switched with J. Teal, who still ran 1:58.71 and was the big split of the day for this group who really needed a sub 2 runner on the relay. This is a fantastic group that has been steadily improving for the past year and a half. I don’t see them slowing down anytime soon.
Arguably the biggest surprise of the day, however, came from
LaSalle, who place 8th overall in 7:58.64! Grant had the biggest leg
for the team as he anchored in 1:57.69. That’s a big drop for him, but it’s
been a long time coming after his breakout races as a freshman. Grant has had
potential and it’s really starting to come together for him and the rest of
this team. The training atmosphere with so many runners around the same level
must be fantastic. It’s no wonder they’re improving so quickly.
That's all for now Folks!

P.S. Don't forget to check out the conversation between Etrain and I about the Mile and who might be running it and why. It's a new series we're starting up; we hope you all enjoy it.

ReplyDeleteWatch Pennsbury
Sauer went 3:09 in the 12 at Poreda, and then came back in the SMR and went 1:58.8. Webb anchored his DMR in 4:23, and then came back in a 4:26 in the open mile. That team is really looking beastly.
ReplyDeleteTheyre gonna burn out...they do it on countless occasions. I.E. Herriman and that XC team in 2012.
DeleteTrack is a different animal, especially if you are talking about the 800
DeleteSam Webb went 9:06 in the 3200 after having a broken leg... talk about burning out.
Deletedid forest die or something?
ReplyDeleteIf he did he hasn't been found yet, there's nothing in the obituaries.
DeleteThe mile at states is now wide open.
ReplyDeleteSo is the 800. Sauer 1:52, possibly Lewis, and Gracia just ran 1:53. Good grief. I still like Ritz in the mile, Brophy will probably hang for the first 1000 or 1200, but Ritz is just too strong.
DeleteNah, Ritz in the mile. The only question is does he put the hammer down for the meet record, or save some for a double.
DeleteRitz will cruise to victory in the mile, but still gets upset in the 8
Delete4:10 would have won Millrose, the biggest mile race of the indoor season. He just showed he's burnt out, as people have been predicting he would become. Just like they predicted the Malvern guys were going too hard for too long. Sometimes it's obvious to everyone but the handlers who think their guy is above everything.
DeleteNot sure that hesburnt out. It was a very slow race and he still ran 6 seconds faster than any other PA kid this year...
DeleteBurnt out??? He ran a 4:15. Burnt out???
DeleteI think ritz is just that good, he is not burning out and will win states in the mile and set the record. It could have been a bad race, or maybe he is training through it so he can peak for states. Only ritz and his coach know,
DeleteHe was in the top group and was bumped around 800 meters mark and fell to the back of the pack. He never recovered after that. Still 4:15 is just a few seconds off of his pr.

Forrest is semi-retired due to other school commitments. Try therealtrain.blogspot.com
DeleteHere’s why OH always comes up short at States. At PCL’s today, James tripled in the 3000/mile/800. Why? To win the team championship? No, OH didn’t need that. To make individual history? Maybe, but why bother, there’s bigger races down the road. They never learn.
ReplyDeleteThere is a strong history and pride in the PCL that is unique compared to other leagues. Make no mistake this is an important race for the the schools involved. That is why they “bother”. Kudos to James for trying to score points for his TEAM! Kudos to O’Hara for wanting to compete!
DeleteA little condescending to claim PCL is unique to other leagues because they have history and pride, pretty much every league has that. They didn’t need him on that triple they’d have won anyway. They do have a history of going too hard to win PCL big and then paying for it later at states with tired legs.
DeleteConsidering that Lasalle won PCL's and not O'Hara, I think they did need him on the triple. Winning a city championship is extremely important to these teams and its the second biggest meet to them behind states. Props to O'Hara for going all in yesterday
Delete^ They had no chance of winning so why put a guy on the most difficult triple in track. Hopefully it doesn't catch up with him on that last lap of the 3000 at states but it probably will.
DeleteCuz Kevin James got more balls than you. Guy is a total stud.
Delete^^Good think not everyone thinks like you or we would have no upsets or competitive sprit in this sport. He's got two weeks until he needs to be ready to go. Im sure it did no more harm to him than a tough workout would do
DeleteKid races his heart out for his team >>>>>>>>>>>>kid avoids races until districts so he doesn’t go to states with tired legs
Delete^^ No argument, he is a total stud, races with guts and has accomplished a lot, except state gold. Probably should have had it with XC team with an easier team approach at PCL's, not his fault though.
Delete^ Don't know how you're sure it did him no harm but even if you're right, it didn't do him any good that's for sure. Nobody else in the state with a chance at state gold is doing that triple. Nobody. I'm rooting for him though, best guy in the state right now without gold. (not counting Ritz who doesn't get a shot in XC or Outdoor)
was at PCL's yesterday and he looked relatively relaxed and well within himself in the Mile and the 800 so I don't think he was all out in either but the killer for him is that he had such short rest between the 800 and 3k so that would be the harmful thing towards him in my opinion but props to him for trying it for his team hopefully it didn't take too much out of him.
DeleteMaybe he was given a shot at individual PCL glory because the state focus will be on the team DMR and forgo the 3000. OH can throw together a 10:30 DMR if fresh and that might be enough to win it. State gold is a long time coming for them.
Delete^ hmmm, they just ran 10:28 solo at MOC.
DeleteOH could win the DMR, but they won't. They'll spread themselves too thin at states as usual.
DeleteJames ran 15:40 at states so he and coach kennedy know what they are doing. Furthermore, he has a lot of time to rest or taper down before the big race. I have so much respect for this dude and is a REAL competitor.
ReplyDeleteWhy did Forrest randomly quit without saying anything?

ReplyDeleteI like etrain but i enjoyed having both blogs to read. plus, the comments were always better here. Even if he is semiretired, it is srange for him to quit without warning.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he's been out on a stupor for a month. What happened to his supporting cast? He had a nice team going during XC
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly, I thought at least Cummings or Evan or one of them would at least have gotten a post in or two.
DeleteThose guys did a great job during XC.
