District One Saturday Results (LIVE) - And District 6 Results

1600 Qualifiers (this is how they were ranked on the list that was put up at districts. The number next to their name was the seed they were on the performance list).

BARCHET (2), RUSSELL (1), HOLM (14), MARSTON (13), SJOREEN (9), DIESTELOW (18), CALDWELL (3), GRACE (8), HOPKINS (22), MCDONALD (21) (UNIONVILLE), HARE (19), POWER (29), JUST MISSED WALTZ (26).

This was the order of the guys qualified from the sheet. Barchet closed in 60.0 to take the top seed, while Russell chilled and looked very smart. Stratman, Moy, and Collins all dropped the 1600 and 3200, but more to come on that later. Marston will be running both the 16 and 32 this weekend; I doubt he’ll try and double at states, meaning he’ll choose one. I think it will be based on how the 32 goes for him tomorrow morning.  Methacton once again has a runner get into the 1600m finals out of districts. Hopkins will be a treat in the finals, as well guys who have been known to peak well such as Hare and Power, but never underestimate Unionville runners, as McDonald could sneak in. Not sure if Caldwell will be running the open 8 as well, but he’s got 4x8 responsibilities as well…

4X8
PENNSBURY (4), CB EAST (2), PENNRIDGE (1), BENSALEM (3), PENNCREST (8), DT EAST (6), HENDERSON (15)(GOING FOR WIN MOY, THOMPSON, COLLINS, STRATMEN), CR NORTH (5), NORTH PENN (9), RADNOR (12), UPPER DUBLIN (19), BOYERTOWN (11)

First Heat – Pennsbury, Bensalem, Henderson, North Penn, and DT East – This heat was really fast as the anchors went pretty hard and all 5 of these teams went 7:52ish. This could hurt all of them tomorrow, but let’s be honest: they’re all strong teams.

Second Heat - CB East, Penncrest, CR North, Boyertown – These guys had most of their legs chill out for the most part. Wilson for CR North was 1:57 on the lead off for example. The anchors of East, North, and Penncrest were all together and went out in 59 high in an attempt to chill, but Mercado for Boyertown went out hard and was breathing down their necks. He ended up splitting 1:54.8! The other anchors came back in the mid 57’s.

Third Heat – Pennridge won in 8:03 – Fantastically played by these guys. They knew all the big guns had gone at it and they got to hang out. Upper Dublin got in from this heat placing second overall.
I’m not sure what heat Radnor was in, but if I had to guess it would be the 3rd

Overall, the top 6 teams feel pretty solidified in my mind from the state meet and they are: Pennsbury, Bensalem, Henderson, DT East, CB East, and Pennridge. North Penn ran an almost all-out effort which does worry me a little bit, but I believe they’ll be the 7th team in. In the battle for the 8th spot we’ll see Penncrest, CR North, and potentially Boyertown. Penncrest is having Chris Kazanjian run only the open 3200, which gives them fresh legs vs. North who will have both Wilson and Arita in the 3200 earlier in the morning. Should be interesting in both the front and back of this race.

Coach Kelly is claiming his boys could break 7:40 at the state meet and their line up looks as follows: Moy, Stratman, Collins, and Thompson. Collins has dropped all open events, so he will be totally fresh at states. The other three will be in the open 800 later today. I don’t think Stratman will make it, which puts 2 fresh legs on Henderson’s relay for states. Moy and Thompson have both been strong and I believe they can move on to the finals in the District race (top 12). I won’t predict that outcome until I see the final line-up. Overall however this is a new an intriguing story.

Moving on to Scratches in the 3200! This is what the top 12 looks like going into the finals tomorrow morning (from what we know right now)

Russell, Wilson, Barchet, Marston, Comber, Webb (?), Willig, Kazanjian, Balla, Arita, Knapp, Zatlin, and Perlman. I’m surprised Barchet is going for the double with Russell, but he has been running very strong in both events this season. Perlman is 13th (unless Webb drops) and is a major guy to watch out for, since he’s so far back. Also Kardish snuck in at 26th place. If he pulls something out of a hat and runs like he did indoors there is no question he could make it to the state meet. The 3200 is weaker this year than most and I doubt we’ll see it go out fast. The top 4 runners all have events later in the day and they are all far superior to everyone else in the race. I doubt Comber will push the pace, so look for it to go out in ~4:40-4:42.

The major drops are: Collins, Stratman, Brophy, Grace, and Diestelow.  Webb is questionable at this point.

The 800 qualifiers are as follows

Heat 1 – Wiseman (1:56.81), Cooper (1:57.13), Garton (1:57.16), Mercado (1:57.36), Stewart (1:58.07), Tooles (1:58.24), and Tupper (1:58.64).

Heat 2 – Logue (1:57.02), LeConey (1:57.34), Francis (1:57.35), Sauer (1:57.69), and Moy (1:59.10).

Thompson and Stratman were the 13th and 14th places, which is really rough for Henderson. Thompson has been doing so well recently and really could be a top 8 guy in the state; however, this leaves at least 3 fresh Henderson runners at the state meet. With Post, Cather, and Logue on double duty this will give a slight advantage to Henderson. We shall see if Moy makes it to the state meet; he’ll have to get through a tough crowd to make it there.

Predictions later tonight!

Will Cather tripled the 16, 8, and 32 in fewer than 90 minutes doing whatever it took to get points for his team. He won the 16 in a solid 4:27, the 800 in 1:55.76 with teammate Kyle Adams right behind him in 1:56.00, and then he finished 3rd in the 3200m as he was flanked by teammates Matt Beyerle and Chris Golembeski (2nd and 4th respectively). The 4x8 team did not need Cather to run 7:49 as sophomore Alex Milligan came up big, splitting (62/57) for the relay squad, which put Stroh in the dust. Post also ran 49.74 to win the open 400. This teams 4x8 is pretty ridiculous right now. Altoona placed second in the 4x8 and qualified for the state meet in ~7:54.

  1. Upper Dublin finished 4th in their heat and missed the final. Downingtown East finished 2nd.

  2. Zach Brehm with a sick quad at the district III meet for the second year in a row. 9:23, something pretty quick on the 4x8, 4:16, and 1:53.9. He had a massive kick in the 1600, probably closed in about 58 or so and made up close to 10 meters on Jeff Groh. He's clearly in shape, and I have no doubt he'll be ready to roll come states.
