Thursday 5/1/14 Results

Montgomery Memorial Meet
Nothing huge, but Kyle Francis won in a solid 1:57 mark. He only split 1:56 at the Penn Relays, which is starting to make me slightly worried, but then again Bensalem runner’s peak very well. His teammate Rahi Shah just broke 2 in a 1:59.40 effort. That 4x8 could be dangerous by the end of the year. Also breaking 2 was CR South’s Ryan Dreeman. I wonder if they go 4x8 at districts.

Helman Memorial Invite
I checked this meet expecting one good race, but we got several!!
Not sure who was on CE East’s 4x8, but they had a very nice 8:07 time, that becomes more impressive when looking at the open events: F. Brophy (50.30) and Oliver Boucher (50.85) took 1-2 in the 400m Dash, while Jake Brophy (2:00.34) and Ata Shahideh (2:02.51 – freshmen) ran very well in the open 800.

Those two were outdone; however, by the Pennridge trio of Logue (1:52.04), Williams (1:59.57), and Masgai (1:59.68). Absolutely outstanding by Logue, that’s a blazing time this early and is a clear challenge to Wiseman to break 1:52 at the Henderson meet. Also a great turnaround for Williams and Masgai who both split very nicely at Penn Relays, these boys are very dangerous.

The meet finished off with two outstanding performances by Brian Mass (9:56.85) and Ben Smullen (9:58.75) of CW West. What is so special about these performances you ask? Both runners are just freshman!!! It’s very rare to see it happen, and for two runners on the same team with sophomore stud Rock Fortna (ran 4:30 in the 1600 for the win) this team could be scary in the next few years! (foreshadowing)

Sorry if my typing is bad, but I am in a cast with a broken wrist, so I can only type with one hand. It makes grammar a bit tougher hahaha. Best of luck to everyone this weekend across the state, especially my Muhlenberg Teammates at the Centennial Conference Championships! It will be Jarrett Felix’s last race in a Muhlenberg Jersey, (he’s in the 4x8) so wish him luck!

  1. Forrest, as I commented a few posts ago, I will gladly write for this blog! hsrunner17@yahoo.com.

I was actually at the Mongomery Memorial Meet. I did not arrive in time to watch the 1600, but I heard that it went out slow and that Dineen from HGP ran it all alone until the field kicked at the end. Kyle ran wire-to-wire in the 800 and was never pushed, but I can't help but wondering if there's an injury there. As a side note, Ryan Dreeman of CRS broke 2:00, and their 4x8 looks fairly strong if you cross-list that result with Wiseman's 1:52 and two other guys around 2:00. Finally, although there are no 3200 results, that race did happen before the thunderstorm/cancellation. Kardish looked pretty strong, going out in mid-4:40s and running the second mile by himself to just make the District standard. His teammate, Connell, ended up running mid-to-high 9:50s for 2nd, and was the only other sub-10.

Other meets that I wasn't at:
Trojan Track Classic - John Lewis of Cheltenham doubles 48 and 1:54, the latter FTW over Austin Cooper, who ran an excellent 1:55. Based on the strength of both Cheltenham's 4x4 and the state 800 this year, I bet Lewis goes open 4 and 4x4 for districts/states. Joe LeConey of NP runs a 1:56, his best open/non-dual meet time since a 2:00 at Kevin Dare, and Andrew Stewart of UD is right there with a 1:57, just decimals off his indoor PR. In the 1600, Ryan Grace drops a 4:19, well ahead of HH's Jacob Fisher, who ran 4:25 for what looks like an 11-second PR. Quakertown's McLaughlin also runs 4:25, and Shalala of PW runs 4:27. Personally, I would have expected faster from him after running a 4:30 in the deplorable conditions of the PA Track Classic, but he's into districts and will probably race Cooper at his league meet next weekend. Not much to report in the 32.

Pine-Richland Invite - Nathan Sloan doubles 4:20/9:41 for the win in both. Haven't seen Baldwin results, but I'd have to imagine that he could have broken 4:20 had he been in that race. Luke Regan, who came out of nowhere with a 9:27 a few weeks ago, runs 4:22 for 2nd, and Carter Smith of Eden Christian establishes himself as a medal threat for AA, doubling 4:27/9:42.

In Day 1 of Delcos, Alex Kim of Haverford School (Independent) wins his section of the 3200 in 9:52, and Kevin James beats Chris Kazanjian 9:28 to 9:36 in the other section. Not too encouraging for James, but I think this race probably went out slow, and he's in 9:10ish shape. Tough races for James Hare (10:21), Watson Hanson (10:29), and Matt Kazanjian (10:08); hopefully they bounce back, maybe even in the 1600 on Day 2 or 3 (I'm not sure about the meet schedule)
