NATIONAL CHAMPION - Tessa Barrett! - Schwartz -6th - Rome - 28th - Wilson 26th!

Wow, Tessa Barrett proved she was the best girl in the race BY FAR making a huge move ~8 minutes into the race to take the lead. She continued to push the pace as the girls around her just dropped! With about 600m to go another runner (Werner?) came up onto her shoulder, but she just notched it up another two levels to win by 10 seconds! My audio on the cast is messed up, but I'm going to try and find out what AT-Time she ran with that 17:16. Extraordinarily impressive performance. I would have loved to see her race at NXN now :( Fantastic job though and Congratulations on the Victory Tessa. That was so excited to watch. Barrett - 17:16

Wow, I totally missed on Schwartz’s finish, but 6th place at Nationals as just a junior. She will be the 3rd best returner going into next year… and also the 3rd returner from the Northeast! There were 6 girls within 2.5 seconds of each other and Schwartz made sure she was at the front of the pack at the finish running 17:42! Regan Rome finished 28th overall in 18:21.

Northeast girls came to play today scoring just 26 points with 4 in the top 6!!! 4 of the top 5 from the NE return with Briana Gees from NJ finishing 13th as the NE’s 5th girl! Truly an amazing showing that we rarely see from the Northeast region; I always feel as though the total change in climate and 3 hour time zone difference is tough to overcome, but they absolutely proved that wrong today.

Ross Wilson finished 26th in 15:50! He was ~35th at 2 mile and moved up nicely at the end of the race. They went out in about 9:53 for the leaders meaning he was ~10:00. I really would have liked to see him mix it up a bit more in the middle pack since the race went out a bit slower than usual, but it was a really solid performance and I'm so proud of him.

Also, a little shout out to Maine's Joseph Holt-Andrews for running a really gutsy race! He put himself in the top 4-5 guys in the first two miles and held on for a 10th place finish, second out of the NE guys, who had a solid 2nd place finish behind a very, very strong year from the West.

Really proud of the way everyone from PA and the Northeast ran today! And Congratulations again to Tessa Barrett for the win and Brianna Schwartz for grabbing a first team All-American spot (as a junior!)

That's all for Now Folks!

    1. She's national champion! Penn Track will give her at least a paragraph, maybe even a quote. They might even mention Schwartz too.

    2. Why do you insist she doesn't get enough press? Every time I click on Penntrack, her picture is front page...and then I can't click off fast enough.

    3. Penntrack devotes much more than half of their coverage to girls and Barret being THE female runner in PA, she's always on there. She doesn't seem to have much personality like Smith or Sheva do, so maybe that's why people think she is slighted as far as coverage.

    4. The girls who battled at NXN would have smoked her. She did great choosing Footlocker-the easier race this year by a lot.

    5. She would have been right in the mix with that top three at NXN. And she doesn’t get nearly the coverage she deserves on Penn Track.

    6. She would have been in the mix for the first 1.5k. Barrett was not in their league though. Those top 3 finishers at NXN were the best in the country. She's be top 10 for sure though and if she hadn't gotten mugged by the girls of F-M, Smith would have finished top 6.

    7. Is that what happened, F-M took her out? That’s really low class if that’s how it went down. Incredible of her to get up and beat them all though!

    8. Barrett gets plenty of attention. She seems very quiet so my guess is it's more than even she would prefer.
She should be applauded for yesterdays win-amazing job!
That being said, I don't think she would have finished higher than 5 if she ran NXN and if Smith had not gotten tripped up, she likely would have finished around 5 or 6 too-but hey, that's XC.
Looking forward to some great stuff from the ladies this indoor season. Sheva should be healthy. Smith, Schwartz and Barrett all mixing it up along with some new faces-can't wait.

  9. It looks like Barrett's 17:15.4 is #6 all time run at Foot Locker Nationals at Balboa. That is absolutely amazing. Proud to say she beat my PR.

  10. Barrett and Schwartz are animals, they are so good. Barrett will dominate the 3k while Schwartz dominates the mile. Thanks for pointing that out, Forrest-Schwartz is only a junior, so she'll be back. Don't be surprised to see them both kill it at brooks PR invite/Millrose

  12. So here is the thing guys, i got in a little trouble last week(nothing too big seeing as im back in school already) but back to the point, the school is no longer letting me run for them until next year. I know i can run as an individual at some meets but however i can not run at either state meet if i qualify. I think its a little upsetting that even though i did make a mistake an educational program isnt willing to give another chance. One mishap i did as a high schooler is going to haunt me for the rest of my life. Life isnt always nice enough to give you a second chance but they have that authority and are not willing to do so. What do you fellow runners suggest doing?

    1. Seeing as we don't know the extent of your mistake, we can't judge their decision. From what it reads, they are giving you a second chance, but have decided that a semester away from the team is the correct punishment. I'm guessing you can appeal to a school board if you feel the punishment is unjust.

On the track side, you can run individually at many indoor meets. You are correct about States though. For outdoor, it is less likely to find meets without a school. Best thing you can do without a coach or team is to find all-comers meets and then try to run club or individually during the summer months to showcase your talent. You may try to appeal to practice with your high school team but not compete. This might give your coach the opportunity to say that you have matured enough to be give a second chance sooner and compete this season.

    2. Well if you have not already protested the ruling then here's a few suggestions (if you really want to keep running):
Also, I don't know what grade you're in, but if you're a junior or senior and you can run fast in some open races then you can potentially get a D1 scholarship. Otherwise, another way to run competitively is to walk on a any program. You can walk on D1, D2, and D3. So if you're a senior then continually training and getting ready for college is very realistic. Here are some general options:

      1) Figure out if you can continue training with your school team.
      a) if they say yes, that's fantastic!
      b) the school says no, then I would ask your coach to try and set up a training plan for you

      2) Do research to find out what meets you can run in. There are usually a decent amount of meets that can be raced in, especially college invitationals and stuff at the Armory in New York. Another big one to train for would be the Henderson Distance Festival at the end of the spring. It could be your big end of the year meet. Also national meets usually let you run unattached if you are of age.

      3) Another way to compete is getting into AAU. It's fairly big and has a national meet in the summer time. Find clubs around you that train and you can do that to help keep you in shape and continually being competitive. A lot of top guys run AAU.

      Best of luck,
