Luckily, some PA runners and graduates did have some actually wonderful experiences this weekend as we saw the first meets of indoor begin:
Recent PA graduate Will McDermott is killing it for Widener
this season. He was the top freshman at regionals and just dropped an 8:39.51
for 3k at the Jack Pyrah Invitational.
The 1k was opened up quite fast with Sam Ellison (UD) winning
in 2:28.35, McGarvey (CBW) 2:31.35, Trimble (NP) – 2:36.45, Magee (LaS)-
2:39.84. Ellison almost broke the meet record of 2:27.99 held by another PA
grad Matt Wikler (CRN).
Another UD grad killed it in the open mile, Michael
Palmisano ran 4:18.93 for second place.
Over at the Bow-Tie Track Classic, David Klein (SH) ran a
4:32.26 for 5th place in the Mile, followed by other PA grad Vincent
Flood (HGP) in 4:35.53.
At Princeton’s New Year’s Invitational Haneef Hardy made an
appearance in the 600m placing 4th in 1:21.90, nice to see him
racing again!
Rad Gunzenhauser (Mt. Lebo) opened his last indoor season
quite nicely for William and Mary doubling a 14:49 5k for second and winning
the 3k in 8:41.61. (CNU Holiday Open)
The Bucknell Bison Opener saw some very fast times by PA
graduates. Christian Lupica (HGP) broke the Bucknell record in the 300 with a
time of 34.62 for the win.
Jack Felt (CRN) ran a blazing 1:57.31 in the 800 for the win
over Mathieu Bee (CBW) who ran 1:57.88. Felt’s teammate Alex Monroe (Mufflin)
ran an ridiculous 14:17.86 for 5k, easily getting him the IC4A Q, as he got
close to breaking the Facility record from 1979 of 14:03. Monroe is coming off
a second place finish at D2 XC nationals.
The High Schoolers opened up as well this weekend at the
Franklin and Marshall Invitational:
The Germantown Friends girls opened up very strong with
Sarah Walker winning the 800 in a swift 2:19.45 and Brigit Anderson winning the
Mile in 5:25.16, and Alice Wistar placing second in the 3k with a fast time of
10:57.03. Walker’s time is good enough to beat the SQS by 4 seconds, but her
teammates just missed getting the Q. They’ll be a DMR squad to watch for as
well.
For the guys James Finney opened up nicely for a 6 second
win the 800 with a time of 2:00.74, missing the SQS by .01!! I’m looking
forward to watching him break 2 soon.
Josh Smith of Avon Grove kicks it in for a win in 4:40.71,
which is a solid opening season time for a guy who took off after the state
meet.
** Edit'd out the 3k piece since I totally dropped the ball with the times... too much coffee.
Smith's Avon Grove came back to the run the 4x800 (not sure if Smith was
on it) to run 8:16.13, which handily gets them the SQS. I’m not sure if this
team took a break after districts, but if they did, that’s a fast opening time,
especially since they won by over 20 seconds. Really impressed by this squad.
That's all for Now Folks! - Although in my extreme coffee ravished state I'm sure that the DMR+ preview will be out sooner than I expect :)

Forrest, get some coffee man! SQS for 3K is 9:00, not 10:00
