Flash Results!

Hey guys, so sorry about the lack of posting! I wrote up a XC Talk about Great Valley if you guys would like me to post that today or tomorrow let me know, if not I'll keep it in the word document.

This will be a quick flash results page that I'll update a bit and then tomorrow I'll be putting up a Weekend Discussion post where I'll analyze the races and such. I may do some updates after this weekend on the Top 50 Individual list and Top 10 Teams list. I also just got a Journal Entry from our 3rd and final writer that I will be posting up tonight.

Also while writing up summaries for the Results I've thought of "People Who Stood Out" This will be 1-3 people every week from a few of the meets who really stood out. They'll usually be individual sleepers that are glanced over or 4-5 guys of teams who ran really well and deserve some recognition. Just trying to constantly throw some names out there of people who raced well :) Hope you guys enjoy the new feature!

RW&B Results: http://www.runhigh.com/2013RESULTS/R090713BA.html (thanks for whomever posted this link!!)
Wow, I almost just cried looking at these results, good lord NA is crushing it. I wanted to dream they'd have 5 in the top 10, but I didn't think it was possible. So they roll 4-8 with a 20 second spread  (15:45-16:05) lead by McGoey tailed by Hunter Wharrey (a man whom I have never head of). They are stacked this year to the teeth.Top 7 in the top 16. Nice running by Mt Lebo behind them. They did reload quite well and should make it out of the WPIALs if they keep improving, but they'll need to show more if they want to compete with the top 7 teams in the state.

RW&B winner was Colin Martin in 15:18. I've personally never seen the course, but that's a really great time for this early in the season against some great competition. Kennedy came in second with 15:25, and Ethan Martin in 3rd with 15:35. Just some fantastic results to see so early in the year. Aaron Benka has a nice start to the season with a 13th place showing.
I made a terrible mistake saying Ethan won the race. Colin came up huge today and I believe this is the first time he beat his brother. This time last year he got beat by 45 seconds, and this year he beat his brother by 17. Just an incredible turn around by this young man and I'm really happy for him now that he's taken that step. Don't think that Ethan will just fall over. This brotherly battle should be wonderful to watch going forwards.

People who stood out:
Anton Martinez of North Hills (9th). This squad continuously produces state medalists, and I'd love to see him join the group. They've got to have a really solid coach over there so watch to see him improve as the season goes on.
Elias Graca of Fox Chapel Area. FC needs at least a 3-4 to step up this season into a solid role for them to make it to the state meet. Graca has taken up this role already, hopefully at least one of the 3 juniors behind him can jump up and start running with him.

Abington Invitational Results: http://runccrs.com/results/abvarb2013/
Just a quick summary, but wow the team battle was really fantastic. If you give Ross Wilson a 1 that puts CRN at 115 points right in the mix with Penncrest, WCE, and DTW during their down week. Dougherty has really stepped into the spotlight for WCE right now, if they can get a 5th runner 30 seconds behind him instead of a minute they'll be in a great position to make states. DTW looked solid with a 45 second spread 1-5, but they're going to have to cut it down to 30 if they want to really compete well at the district level. Also major points for GV in my mind. Willig places 20th and they've got their 2-4 guys not racing and place 4th and not too far behind these other squads.

There were rumors that WCE was putting in good miles this summer and their fitness was really proven at the Abington Invitational where Chris Cummings dropped a HUGE PR with a win in a 15:31 effort. He was followed by the Kazanjian Brothers who suck together this time to run 15:41 and 15:42 respectively. Ross Wilson (CRN) is off visiting Michigan this weekend, but CRN came back strong today. Arita led the charge in 16:20, Griswold-16:47, Simmons-16:52, Profy-17:20. Wilson is off on college visits, but with him leading this team they're back where I had them as a solid 5 man squad. They really drop off after Profy, so depth is an issue for this team. I'm not sure how the rest of WCE finished, but I'll be posting more as I get information. It was slightly slow due to rain last year, but Emery won in 15:59.

People who Stood Out:
Josh Smith of Avon Grove: I've never heard of this young man until todays race where he breaks 16 minutes and places 5th over all. Hopefully we'll keep seeing fast stuff from him late into the season, cause he could be a lock to the state meet.
Ellis of Great Valley would make the jump after his 17:20 showing at districts last year as a soph, and he PR's by 20 seconds in his first race. Really good stuff.

PTXC 5-
First thoughts on the race is LD impressed but didn't. How is that? Well their 1-4 ran fantastic, Groh once again proved his dominance on the course with a second place finish. Hopefully he'll continue to run well this season. They didn't impress because I had assumed they'd have depth, but their 5-7 didn't look great. It's early in the season though, so I'm not worried about them as a squad.
Red Land greatly impressed me. Lauer ran a very solid race and their team looked very good behind him. I think I'm going to do an XC talk on them later in the week.
Dominic Deluca came up with the win which isn't too surprising. He's a total stud.

I'll put up more on this meet tomorrow, I got a concert to attend in Philly! Wonderful racing to everyone this weekend though, just some fantastic results.
 That's all I got for now :)

  1. Definitely interested in any team talk you make. If the someone doesn't want to read it they won't, but I think most of us are interested to read as much as possible.

And the waiting begins for PTXC results and RWB

  2. PTXC5 Start lists: http://pa.milesplit.com/meets/133447/attachment/256989
Pennsbury girls competed, boys appear not to have been there.
Main teams in A race: Lower Dauphin, CV, Dallas, Easton, Altoona, Chambersburg.
Chambersburg has a good team this year, only lost to CV 26-29 in a dual this week.
Some out of state schools will also try to put their mark on the race, specifically Severna Park.

    1. Is Chambersburg good or is CV down?

    2. I would say both. Chambersburg has a very good shoot at making it out of district 3 as the #4team. CV is significantly down from the previous two years, unlikely that they repeat any of their glory from last year. They don't have enough depth out front from what has been seen so far. Both should be top 7 teams at districts, but neither top 3 most likely. We should have better data after PTXC posts results

  5. PTXC results are up!! Red Land looked very very good finishing 3'rd. They had a real nice pack after Aaron Lauer. Not surprisingly, LD won and looked good doing so.

    1. Don't know about that, but he did set a new course record

    2. He'll be in a boot by States. Peaking in September and running unnecessary, ridiculous miles all summer is a set-up for injury. See it every year.

    3. Good runner but I don't know about winning states. A top ten in Chesmonts by anyone will be impressive again this year.

    4. Cummings was top ten in Chesmonts last year. Probably be top five this year, maybe even top three.

    5. Top three would depend on who Henderson rests.

  9. Just so you know ForrestCRN, RWB is an extremely extremely fast course. There is one uphill that is hardly considered a hill in the minds of most Pennsylvanians. And also today was great conditions for the course. But I think other than Colin Martin winning the race, the big story(s) of the race was the freshmen. Eric Kennedy of Kiski Area (Brent's brother) won in 16:58!! BUT!! In the varsity race, a freshman by the name of Shaun Hay from Peters Township ran a 16:48 and came in 23rd I believe. Those times are insane!!!

  10. Todd Gunzenhauser (Rad's little brother) is the top soph at RWB in 16:30. Great race for him.

    2. Great Valley could be 2nd at districts this year. Who cares what they do first weekend of September.

    3. I heard they've got a bunch of serious injuries.

    4. Great Valley always has a lot of talent. They also seem to keep a few of their top runners in boots. Last year their girls team was jinxed, maybe this year it's the boys turn. Although if you check the JV race I'm pretty sure they ran some of their top guys there. I didn't see Zaitlin and that's a big loss for GV.

  12. So many people are dropping sub 16:00s right now, it really makes me wonder which runners will maintain their ability through the season into districts/states and who will burn out. Just throwing that out there. I think it will be interesting to see where all of these runners are in a month or two.

    1. Always remember weather though. I know the WPIAL for example has had poor weather nearly every major invite there for the past couple years. But yes there are an awful of 15:xx's out there right now

  13. This year as started incredibly fast and it'll be very interesting watching who burns out and who can maintain.

WCE looks great, if they can get their 5th guy down and not burn out they will be second at districts, easily.

Great Valley appears to be missing a few key runners. There does appear to be injuries holding some runners back as well, but they usually are good to go by districts so only time will tell.
