  1. Reilly hasn't raced in an invitational but he did run 15:45 at a dual meet last week.

    1. For some perspective on Reilly, he beat Aaron Gebhart (16:02) in that race and ran a 15:57 the week before on a course where Chuck Lockwood ran a 15:47 in 2009.

  2. Everyone has run in dual meets so far. They are not a factor.

    1. All he is saying is that Reilly has run 15:45. Shows that he is in good shape. Of course we don't know the quality of the course, so it is difficult to judge.

    2. With no other information than it was a dual meet, it proves nothing.

    3. These are the types of posts I'm talking about guys. When I see Reilly ran 15:45 in a dual meet I'm thinking: "Fantastic! Reilly is racing (meaning he's health) and he's got to be in good shape to run 15:45 even if the course is easy. This is good news". You guys decide to rip on people who post this type of positive information. Please refrain from doing so.

Thank you poster above for the comment about Reilly, I greatly appreciate it!

    4. Did I miss something? The post that defended your process of ignoring dual meets for ranking purposes didn't come across as a rip of anyone.

Forrest,is this an open forum or are you going to snark on and censor anyone who has a legitimate point? Posting a "top 50" ranking(pre-mature IMHO)is controversial and naturally will encourage debate. Disagreement is what makes for a lively blog.

    5. Woah, I didn't censor those comments at all. Or else they would have been deleted. And I can't really do much with dual meets since I rarely see results for them other than local papers which I try and read every Wednesday.

I jumped the gun a bit with commenting, I try not to comment too much on the blog now that I run it, but the last few posts on previous threads ripping other posters without making legitimate points did bother me.

I'm not sure what "(pre-mature IMHO)" means, but I decided to post a new top 50 since 3 weeks have gone by and even though many people are still just opening up their season a lot has happened and I wanted to keep some things in perspective by posting a new one now. I greatly encourage debates and discussion, which is why I said "Debate Away" after my last top 10 team's ranking. I love seeing what everyone has to say and why they disagree with me, such as why the person below who brings up concerns and why be believes the ranking is incorrect. That is what makes me want to keep doing the blog. Not obnoxious comments where people sarcastically bring down other runners. I will not censor this blog. I'm extremely libertarian and was a debater in high school, I am always open to friendly comments and debates. There is a line though.

I will try and keep my posts to a bare-minimum from now on.

  3. I think the Kazanjian brothers are a little low, and McGoey is a little high. Abington is a harder course than RW&B.

I would also move James up to No. 2. I realize you don't want to move a guy big after just one race, but what a race!

  4. I know it was one race, but Colin Martin ran a PR, along with Ethan and Brent (XC 5k PR) and he beat Ethan by 17 seconds and Brent by 7 seconds. At this point, it's hard to keep him back there if they're going to be placed so high.

This week is briarwood right? Henderson vs O'Hara?

    1. Henderson isn't going to Briarwood. They are only signed up for Carlisle and Manhattan at this point for big invites.

    2. Rumor floating around Bulldog was O'Hara varsity was going to Foundation and JV only to Briarwood.

    4. There won't be any 15:12's at Foundation.

  5. Forrest,

Keep your comments coming. Don't let people get under your skin. You're doing a great job.

That being said, I'm tired of the excuses. So and so is sick, this guy tripped. Man up. If you're well enough to toe the line, race and don't make excuses after the fact. If you can't stay on your feet, shame on you. Also, everyone who is going to be a contender is training hard. If you're resting for meets in September, you won't be a factor in November.

    2. If a races results look screwy for a particular runner, then I appreciate an explanation of what went wrong or an excuse as some would say. But when excuses are made for kids who had really solid runs, it reads as arrogant.

You have a good thing going, Forrest. Keep up good work.

    3. Forrest, I think the same thing happened to etrain last September, there was some over the top trash talk that he deleted and you're right, anything trashing another runner should be deleted. But as the season developed to the bigger invitationals and then championships it settled down and there were more good discussions/info in the comments.
      Keep up the great work!

  6. I have respect for runners that can go all season and run in only two invitationals. I'd hate all that training and not racing to see where I stand.

Back on topic, Bulldog has historically been a shortened course, but nonetheless James' time is impressive. It's also not that much shorter. DTW's top 5... where did they come from? The junior is the only one that ran at Abington... where did all of those freshman come from? They had to be good enough to run JV at Abington, it's like they appeared out of no where.

    1. Agreed, it has to be tough just running workouts and dual meets in September. Unless you're on a team like Henderson, where you're planning on running states, NE's and nationals and peaking in November. Then September isn't that important and besides, good training will let you know where you stand.

If Bulldog is short, which it appears to be, it shouldn't claim to be a 5K.

    2. A lot of talent on that DTW squad. Not sure how far they will get this year without a Big Stick at the front. They need some guys down around 16 come Districts. However, I can see them giving Henderson a run in a couple of years.

    3. RTJ- The four freshman ran varsity at Bulldog because DTW was resting their top 4 guys

  7. I think Bulldog has been listed on Milesplit as a three mile in the past

  8. Apparently, Rose Tree has changed the last few years so maybe it was a 5k or extremely close to one. Usually when it's not a 5k it's listed and someone said a coach measured it and it was a 5k then it could be legit. Bulldog is easier than the rough Delco course and there's really only one hard uphill so maybe the times are legit. It's not like a nobody ran that time, it was Kevin James. Other runners have run fast times as well so I think it will be legit.

    1. It's not just James, the times across the board hint at shorter than 5K.

    2. True, but Cummings ran 15:31 at Abington and then less than a second better there. I feel like if it was under 5k he would have ran sub 15:20 like Kevin James did. I think the Marcellis bros ran even slower than they did at Abington which only has one or two rough hills. I can see what people mean by some of the people that came out of no where (four frosh from DTW) but everyone else seemed to be exactly where they were from Abington.

  9. I would move albert inside top 10 and move brehm slightly outside top 10. Would like to see 1 more race from brehm before mocinf him within top 10. I would move kazajian inside top 20 and move kardish further back. Balla should probably make top 50. Overall, i think the list is on the spot. Keep up the great work.
