Quick Results 9/20

So I'm going to quickly run through the results that are up right now. They'll be analyzed in more depth later.

Before I jump into the Foundation results, Nick Dahl and Grayson Hepp of Germantown Friends had some good races at the Adidas XC Challenge in North Carolina. Dahl took fourth in 15:29 (bear in mind the times are very fast) which is a great performance and Grayson Hepp also with a good race for 22nd in 15:54. Also Brad Foust won the Altoona Mt. Lion Invitational in 16:20, another solid win for him and only 3 seconds off of his PR. And lastly, at the Mercersburg Academy Invitational (not familiar with the meet, looks like a lot of Catholic schools), Gabriel Allgayer won in 16:18 which is another good time for him after a 16:16 last week.

Foundation:

Paul Power. Woah. 15:50 for the win. That's a huge result for him to open the season with and immediately jumps him into the state champion conversation. The time is killer too, only 5 seconds off the course record. Everything about Kevin James' race to take 15:54 and beat out Brophy (who he was behind last week) and McGoey is monster, except that he took second. But still an awesome effort for second, any guy who can go under 16 on that course is seriously amazing. Brophy in third with 16:01, another great performance from him, that same time should earn him at least a top 10 if not top 5 medal at the State Meet. Matt McGoey and Hunter Wharrey only a few seconds apart again for 4th and 5th, but a little bit back at 16:17 and 16:21. Ryan James stepping up huge into sixth at 16:29 and right ahead of Jonathan Perlman at 16:30 who opened his season up very well. Just to round out the top 10 here was Ian Baun of Mount Lebanon, a great performance for him, I'd seen his name on Evan's list but hadn't put him on my radar yet, but with his 9th place finish he'll be a guy to watch moving forward.

Severna Park upsets Pennsylvania. My hat's off to the team from Maryland. Cardinal O'Hara beating out North Allegheny is a good sign for them, they'll be back as a serious name for the team title discussion. Despite what it might seem, North Allegheny did not run that poorly, just their fourth and fifth are a little bit farther back from the top 3 than last year, but no reason to worry too much for them, they still had a solid showing. Right behind them was Mount Lebanon with a good race, Mount Lebanon had lost to North Allegheny by much more just a few weeks ago. Then we had Central Bucks East and Lower Dauphin with good performances.

Nothing too special out of the Blue race expect for Dominic Hockenbury who won in 16:10 and the York Suburban guys who looked good and took the team win. Hockenbury just proved again that he is simply the guy to beat in AA, and that time would've been good for fourth in the Gold race, so he's definitely running well.

  1. The times up front look impressive, but the team results are a little underwhelming.

  2. I'd have to disagree with your analysis of NA. Their top three looked very good, but you can't place well at states with a 4th and 5th guy over 17:40. With the bigger field, that will kill you.
