Battle of the Districts

Every year Etrain and I scored the top 5 runners from every district and scored them as teams. District 1 has been victorious the past two years and has won a majority of the titles since the early 2000's (oldest date I have). The only other district to claim victory has been district 7. Back in 2005 district 3 came it's closest to winning (losing 27 to 30 to district 1).

All of the battles for the title have come down to a clear cut blowout or 2 districts battling it out for the victory. This year however, at least at this stage of the game, it seems there could be a very tight 3 way battle for the first time.

District 1: 1+2+10+14+21= 48

District 3: 3+9+11+12+17 = 52

District 7: 4+5+7+13+19 = 48

District 3 currently has the best depth through 5, but district 1 has the 1-2 punch of Wilson and Russell, while District 7 has the trio formed by Kennedy and the Martin Twins who are backed by a very strong NA squad.

Who will come away with the title?

I'll post the new scores from now on at the bottom of the top 50 post to keep that scoring system in the loop.

  2. The Henderson invite is tonight. It looks like Cummings in the only WCE runner, probably because he has that college visit this weekend and will miss the William Tenant invite and of course, didn't get to run Paul Short like everyone else. It'll be interesting to see if he drops a 3200 pr.

    1. Cummings ran 9:33 and beat the rest of the field by about 100m. Henderson pack met goals of 4:30/10:00.

    2. He ran it totally on his own, which usually means he could have gone at least another 10 seconds lower if there was competition. He was fired up, went out in like 65 first quarter.

  3. Two takeaways from the Henderson invite:
WCH is the #1 team in PA without question.
    Cummings is for real.

    1. Im not impressed by a 9:33 from him

    2. While it may be a PR for him, there are other factors to consider
-He was alone in the race and had no one to push him.
      - Its the middle of the season, no one in the race rested, including him.
      - He happened to run a 4:41 mile w/o warm up in gym class this morning (if you wanted to know)
      - He has been training for 5k not 3200.

That's like saying that Russell's 10:00 was unimpressive.

    3. Why did he run a 4:41 in gym class?

    4. Well the previous gym class record was 4:54, which was motivation enough for him.

    5. Yeah that's actually extremely stupid considering he didn't even warm up.

  7. 9:33 by Cummings on his own is very impressive. I don’t know what he did over the summer to get to another level but whatever it was he could sell it as a training program online. Seriously, he’s been killing it all season. The win at Foundation is one of the best performances so far in PA this year in my opinion. I consider him top 5 right now…though that could change if WCH kills it at Reebok this weekend.

Henderson is coming together, as expected. I’ll be shocked if Coach Kelly can’t turn a 4:16 miler like Moy and a 4:19 like Stratman into a top XC guys. Throw them in with Russell, Barchet, the consistent Collins and solid Waltz/Knapp and that is one scary good team.

    1. Stratman and Knapp already have really decent xc cred. Moy's potential is scary good, Waltz is solid and Swart is making some noise. Is G. Barchet still running?
