Meet Previews/Results - 10/16 and 10/17

Well I dropped the ball with the Lehigh Valley Conference. I totally thought the meet would be tomorrow. Abert absolutely killed it with a 16:04 clocking for a 35 second victory. After him Freedom unloaded, proving they're worthy of that top 10 spot scoring just 33 points. Parkland's depth helped them get the best of Easton Area, but I think it'll be a bit closer at the district meet. If anyone has YAIAA results please post them up on the blog. Best of luck to the meets tomorrow!
Also Germantown Friends freshman Nick Dahl ran 17:39 for the victory. He's the future of a young GFS squad.

 Berks County Championships – 10/16
We haven’t seen much from Wilson this season, but they return everyone from last season. Twin Valley also has a really nice squad this season and I’m hoping this will lead to a fast race from both squads. Individually Jacob Connors made the tail-end of my Top 50 list this summer but he hasn’t raced much this season. Also look for Kyle Shinn of Wyomissing. He was a fantastic sophomore who, much like Connors hasn’t raced much this season. If they’re in good shape it should be a fun race up front as well. Also look for Jared Luckanitz of Gov. Mifflin.

Ed Narkiewicz All – League Meet 10/16
I’m really excited for this one. Dallas, Tunkhannock, and Lake Lehman are all squads who have a shot of making it out of District 2. Dallas and L-L are AA and Tunkhannock is AAA. Deluca has proved that he’s one of the top guys in the state and Hockenbury isn’t too far behind him on that AA list. Tidball and him should be pretty close.
I thought Tunkhannock was a top 10 team at the state of this season, but they have fallen off the map. I’m hoping they blow this meet out of their water right before the District 2 championships.

Central League Championships – 10/17
Conestoga should dominate this meet, but I’m excited to see them run a full 5k. We’ll get to see how Marston stacks up against the Kazanjian’s.

Tri-State Coaches Association – 10/17
NA ran their full varsity here last season and I’m hoping they do so again to see where they are, but I’m sure they would win without their full varsity. Fox Chapel will be here as well to see how the Martin twins are doing. There are rumors of a small injury to Ethan, so we may see a second win by Colin this season. It’ll also be a great opportunity to see where Mt Lebo is compared to NA and other top WPIAL teams. Other individuals to watch out for are Aaron Benka who just had a big win along with Van Kooten, Sloan (coming off injury), Martinez, Dinger,  Miller & Eric Kennedy from Kiski, and Jacob Susalla from Plum.

That's All for Now Folks!

  2. Abert also got the course record, beating Matt Kaycon's time which was 16:09.

  4. I know Pat Reilly won the YAIAA championships, I don't know any times yet though. I'll post a link to them once they come up.

  6. L-L league results are up on runhigh.com
Cedar Crest beat Hempfield. Nothing too special, sadly

  7. Isn't Abert the dude who took it out too hard at states last year but didn't die and came in with a nice top soph finish?

  8. What happened to Daniel Quigley, he placed 4th on the team for Freedom(11). Their number one guy, Ben Ziegler was 2nd overall, only 35 seconds off Abert.

  9. The Berks Championships should be a great race between three good teams; Wilson and Governor Mifflin, who haven't really shown their hand yet, and an already-established Twin Valley squad, who's raced toe to toe with some top D1 schools. These three teams will be in the mix for the 4 state qualifying spots from District 3 next week. Also look for a strong individual showing from Jacob Connors of Wilson, Kris Lizins of Twin Valley, Jared Luckanitz of Governor Mifflin, and Kyle Shinn of Wyomissing.

    1. Couldn't have said it any better myself. Twin Valley should open some eyes because they have the depth and close spread to take a spot at districts. Individually, Jared Luckanitz and Jacob Connors will have a great battle up top. They are both good enough to be top 10-15 at districts.

    1. Yes you did. Freedom won the league championship last year as well, not Parkland. Get your facts straight dude.

  12. Just some additional comments to my post:
    1. The course that Abert ran in 16:04 is extremely difficult. A teammate of mine has ran it a few times and both he and Kacyon ran faster on the state course than they did at that meet, setting up Abert for around 16 flat if not faster @ states.
    2. Here is an interview of him after the race: http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/10/easton_area_high_schools_colin_5.html#incart_river
    3. This Freedom team is legit. I think they can be top 7 if not top 5 in the state. They've got a fantastic pack and are moving up big time. I really like them right now.
    4. Reilly gets a HUGE win at the YAIAA championships. Just 4 seconds shy of a strong course record. The two guys in front of him were: Jon Grey (CR), went on to finish 8th in one of PA's strongest years (2005) and Chuck Lockwood who ran 16:04 @ States and finished 4th. I think Reilly will be right around that time at the state meet. Plus he beat Gebhart by 16 seconds who is no slouch.
    5. I think Quigley of Freedom will be back up with their top 3 guys at the district meet and if he is, they'll be loaded.

    1. Chesmont Preview - View last years results, the teams will finish the same except Kennett and Unionville might flip.

Replace the four seniors last years top 15 with Kienzle, Smith, Knapp and McDonald.

Oh, and the course is actually 3.25 so unless they fixed it, don't read into the it when the times are so slow.

    2. Nope, DTW second, GV lower, Avon Grove higher (perhaps fourth)

Remember last year was run in six inches of mud.

      Delete
    3. The mud didn't seem to impact the two mile split of 10:30 or so for the leaders.

      Delete
    4. Except we would expect the leaders to be under 10:00 on a good day.

    5. The leaders don't even go under 10:00 at Lehigh during districts. I believe there was a pack of like 10 runners at the two mile mark last year at about 10:25 and then Russell and Barchet picked it up and pulled away. The course was a messy but not enough to slow the last mile pace from 5:12 to 5:40. I think someone checked it with garmin and posted it was noticably too long.
