Quick Information!

Be sure to check out the District 4 and 7 Result Analysis below along with Distict 6 and 9 Previews that have been posted today!

I wanted this little section to be about a few important points:

1. To all Coaches and Runners from District 1, since there will not be a JV or unseeded race done by Lehigh this season Coach Kelly of WCH and a few others will be having their kids run and doing hand timing. This is available for both boys and girls. He will be compiling the results on a spread sheet on Monday and then sending out the 'official' results to everyone who participated. E-mail him @ kkelly1@wcasd.k12.pa.us for more information or your results to help him, and the running community out.
This race is extremely important to me, and I believe all districts should hold Junior Varsity races after the Varsity ones. JV runners are the future of teams and being able to run on a big stage like Districts for guys is very inspirational and gives hope for a future career in running. I was 18:21 @ Lehigh as  sophomore in the JV race and the atmosphere around it running against over 1000 other kids was fantastic and I'll never forget it. The race did a lot to inspire me to continue running after a season that held many set backs due to injury.

2. I will be attending the meet tomorrow and should arrive around 10:30. I'll be filming the races, taking splits, and doing interviews until around 1 or 2 PM. I'd love to try and grab interviews with as many people as possible, not just the District champions. It'll be very on the fly, flotrack type style so if you see me say hi and come talk! My number is 215-990-6173 if anyone wants to text or call me while I'm in attendance to do an interview or just to get to know the face behind the blog.

3. Best of luck to everyone still competing this weekend and fantastic job to everyone who already raced this week. The times and competition have been just unbelievable so far.

PA DON'T PLAY!

  1. D1 is a really tough call tomorrow, but I’m gonna try anyway.

Teams – starting with last year’s qualifiers

WCH – I’ll go out on a limb and say they make it through to states. They seemed to hold back at Chesmonts but I believe they’ll go all out here. They can afford to hold back a little but they could also afford a confidence boost with a big win. I’m guessing they go for it, and win with less than 50 points.
CRN – They’re not as deep as they were last year, but they’re deep enough. I think they’ll get through, especially if they can get their #5 below 17:00.
WCE – 3 front runners, a solid number four and then a drop off. It’s too much to ask freshmen to drop a 1 minute pr and unfortunately that’s what it will take for them to get there. The difference between 16:45 and 17:45 on Lehigh is at least 150 places, and that’s probably what they’re up against. I’d love to see them make it but I don’t think it’s in the cards.
GV – They’ve had injuries and are overcoming them but…..it may be too late in the game. Willig and Zatlin have the experience and they’ll probably keep improving, but they’ll need a major drop from one of their 3 – 5 to get there. If they’re totally on they could grab that 5th place but that’s probably not happening.
DTW – These guys lack front runners but have a big group capable of finishing in the 40 – 60th place range. If they keep the pack together, it’s definitely possible.
    Other Contenders
Conestoga – These guys looked great on the tough Rose Tree course at Centrals. They’ve got a front runner in Marston and depth to cover a bad day by someone. I say they get through.
North Penn – With 5 under 17:00 at SOL’s and some depth, they’re solid enough to make it.
Pennsbury – has a front runner in Webb, a strong 2-3 and solid 4-7.
CBE, Bensalem and CRS – All very similar, with 5 guys capable of being sub 17:00.

    So my guess? Basically after WCH, any team that has a big day has a great shot, but I’ll go with;

    WCH – 45 , Conestoga – 185, CRN – 197, North Penn – 240, Pennsbury 265.

Individually – The weather is looking good for quick time. If Russell is on and going for the victory, which I expect, he should win it in 15:05 or so. I’m looking forward to Cummings mixing it up with Wilson, Webb, Kazajian etc. and showing off all the hard work he put in to get to another level. WCH left Chesmonts open to whoever wanted it so he took it, who wouldn’t? But he should not be underestimated, he’s capable of winning this. I think Stratman and Moy come up big for WCH (if they run), this course suits them.

  2. My top 5 prediction
    1 WCH
    2. CRN
    3 Conestoga
    4. NP
    5. DTW
The top 3 are solid. Pennsbury and WCE and GV are close enough to 4-5 to grab a spots if NP and DTW have an off day.

  3. No official JV race? That has got to be the stupidest thing of the year. What, is that a budget cut or something? It's districts!!!!!! Everyone should be able to run and it shouldn't be on Coach Kelly and the others to make it happen! What is up with that??????

  4. D3 doesn't have a JV race, and hasn't for as long as I can remember.

  5. Yeah I wish D3 had one. You can't say stupidest thing of the year when other districts don't have it.

    1. Sure you can. The other districts stupidity is independent of D1's stupid decision.

  6. Props to Coach Kelly for stepping up and realizing the importance of maintaining a JV race. Shame on whoever the morons at District 1 are-combine the A & AA classifications again and bring back the JV races.

  7. D3 should get a JV race. The season for most teams culminates at Districts and the whole day is a blast when the entire team is there and running..

  8. District 7 doesn't technically have a "Districts" JV race, but there is a Tri-State Coaches Association JV Championship three days before WPIALS that many teams treat as JV Districts.
