Every year it seems that a guy competing for a top 10 spot
in the state gets injured. Last year that was Quinn Devlin and it seems as
though this year it is Brent Kennedy. In my pre-season prediction list I
thought Kennedy would win this state title. He was so strong last season and
didn’t have a very satisfying year on the track, meaning he’d be hungry. He’s
got speed, strength, and tons of talent and I really thought he could do it.
I’m really sad to hear we lost a FL finalist from PA competition;
he could have been the first guy to go back to back at FL in very long time.
Recently Brad Miles and Ryan Gil went to both FLN and NXN in back to back
years, but never FL twice.
This also is detrimental to the possibility of District 7
winning the state title… since that’s the major concern here.
Either way, I hope Brent gets better and will be ready to
roll for track, but now this opens the door up for some of the other guys..
Will we see another Junior Win the state title??
I’ll be writing more historical based posts about State
title winners in the coming weeks up to the state championships. I thought
Brent would be one of the sophomore medalists turned state champion.
That's all for Now Folks! Best of luck tomorrow! Hope the elements aren't too bad, but XC isn't about times, it's about who you beat.

Damn...wonder if anyone else can give the Martins a run at WPIALs.
ReplyDeleteSome more WPIAL news of sorts. 3200m state champ and WPIAL stud Ethan Martin is nursing his Achilles. Hearing he is still running some and cross-training but is reported to have a noticeable limp. Colin running fine. Nathan Sloan (Hampton guy sub 4:20 and low 16's as a junior) is back and has run some decent times in dual meets. He's probably gone off some people's radars but I'd watch for him in the coming weeks.

ReplyDeleteSverige55 chiming in: some Kiski guys thought Brent would be running at TriStates but maybe due to conditions that did not happen. We'll see Thursday if he can race to states. Sloan looked good from Hampton and the Martins looked typically in control at TSTCAs (1st and 3rd) but the story was the improvement of Aaron Benka (jr) pushing the Martins, from D10 Grove City -- that coach knows what he's doing! Kildoo, Jaskowak, now Benka on the breakout front...
