- Tony Russell (2 to 1): Russell beat out some top US guys this weekend and ran 4 seconds faster than he did last season at Manhattan. This guy could be unbeatable in PA XC. Can’t wait to see him and Wilson battle at Districts.
- Ross Wilson (1 to 2): 2 Off-Weekends
- Colin Martin (7 to 3): Hasn’t raced since RW&B, but his brother has some injury issues and this could very well be Colin’s year.
- Kevin James (6 to 4): Really great race running out front and smart enough to turn it off at the end, but still beats Chris Kazanjian by 9 seconds.
- Ethan Martin (Same): Heard there are some injury rumors, but he stays here until he races.
- Dominic Deluca (8 to 6): Off-Weekends
- Zach Brehm (3 to 7): Still not exactly sure what to do with him, because he’s got the potential to run with the top guns and has done so @ Carlisle, but hasn’t been racing great the past two weekends.
- Patrick Reilly (9 to 8): Off weekends
- Chris Cummings (10 to 9): Off Weekends.
- Jeff Groh (11 to 10): Placed 4th @ Mid-Penn’s, but I’m not worried yet. He’s strung together too many good races this season to write him off after a decent performance.
- Colin Abert (15 to 11): Abert ran 15:04 for what is rumored to be a full 5k. He did beat McDonalds performance by 31 seconds which is extremely impressive. I think this kid is ready to roll.
- Aaron Gebhart (Same): Off-Weekends
- Matt McGoey (Same): Off-Weekends
- Cole Nissley (18 to 14): Big win at Mid-Penn’s. Love his consistency.
- Griffin Molino (16 to 15): Off Weekends
- Aaron Lauer (17 to 16): Off-Weekend
- Reiny Barchet (14 to 17): Had a good race @ Manhattan that was faster than last season. He’s been running workouts with Russell so he’s got the potential to be in the top 7.
- Casey Comber (28 to 22): I’ve been really impressed with him recently. Breaking a big record by Matt Kaycon.
- Jeremy Parsons (22 to 19): Another Invitational Win this weekend. He’s undefeated this season.
- Sam Webb (21 to 20): Placed 20th @ Manhattan with a solid time. Not totally impressed by his performances just yet.
- Seamus Love (19 to 21): Off-Weekend
- Chris Kazanjian (27 to 22): Second Place @ Delco’s. Rounding into great shape.
- Hunter Wharrey (20 to 23): Off Weekend
- Jake Brophy (45 to 24): Really fantastic dual meet race against Comber. Can’t wait to see him at districts.
- Jaxson Hoey (23 to 25): Been racing fantastic recently. Really wish I could see him at the state meet. Hoping to see him @ one of the Regional races.
- Sam Ritz (Same): Really solid race close behind Webb @ Manhattan. It was a short course and plays to his speed which is why he’s not further up on the list.
- Cordon Louco (24 to 27): Off-Weekend
- Jim Belfatto (22 to 28): 3rd @ Delco’s
- Scott Seel (25 to 29): Off Weekend
- Dave Fowler (Unranked to 30): Really great race at Delco’s right behind Belfatto. Really waiting to see how he does at Districts
- Dominic Hockenbury (29 to 31): Off Weekend.
- Daniel Green (Unranked to 32): Loved his race this past weekend @ Mid-Penn’s for 3rd place. I need to see more from him though.
- Brandon Bilotta (31 to 33): Off Weekend
- Simon Smith (Unranked to 34th): 9th @ PTXC and had a big win this weekend @ NTL. Can’t believe I missed this one.
- Zach Seiger (30 to 35): 5th place @ Mid-Penn’s
- Jack Tidball (34 to 36): Off-Weekends
- Alex Knapp (49 to 37): Had a great weekend @ Manhattan. Hoping to see more
- Matt Kazanjian (38 to 40): Nice race @ Delco’s for 6th
- Brian Delany (35 to 39): Off Weekend
- Anton Martinez (Unranked to 40): 2nd place @ PCCI and beat Wharrey. North Hill’s kids always show up. WPIAL’s should be a great race for him.
- Eric Stratman (32 to 41): Lost his shoe 300m into the race. Hope he’s alright.
- Jonathan Perlman (37 to 42): Off Weekend
- Andrew Marston (Unranked to 43): He’s been running really great races this year, but mostly 2-miles. Now he’s run a good 2.5 mile race. Really going to need to see a 5k to move him further up.
- William Cather (39 to 44): Got 6th @ Mid-Penn’s. He’s been taking it easy and I think can place top 30 @ States.
- William Kachman (41 to 45): Off Weekend
- Connor Holm (33 to 46): He lost to teammate Hanson this weekend, but has run some great races this season.
- Seamus Collins (38 to 47): Ran a great workout this week into a solid race.
- Billy Caldwell (Unranked to 48): Big win for him @ William Tennent
- Jeff Van Kooten (47 to 49): 4th @ PCCI
- Josh Smith (43 to 50): Off – Weekend
Removed from List:
Brent Kennedy (Injured)
#36 Drew Pastore: Didn’t run very well @ Delco’s. Thought he would have beaten the Radnor duo.
#36 Drew Pastore: Didn’t run very well @ Delco’s. Thought he would have beaten the Radnor duo.
#43 Alexander Balla
# 44 Aiden Demko: Opened his season
@ Mid-Penn’s. Did solid for an opener
# 46: Eric Diestelow: Second Place @
WT Invitational
#47 Gary Olson: Had some really nice
races this season, might move him back on the list soon.
# 48 Rob Morro: Decent race this
weekend @ Delco’s
#50 Brady Wilt: Off Weekend
Just Missed List:
Gunnar Sjoreen: 13:06 @ Manhattan.
He’s really close to making the list. Need to see a full 5k first.
Aaron Benka: Had a really fantastic
Victory, but not enough to put him back on the top 50 after not placing well
earlier this season. (Could be a mistake)
Watson Hanson: Beat out Holm this
weekend @ Delco’s
That's all for Now Folks!

Josh Smith?
ReplyDeleteAvon Grove's top guy. 15:57 and 5th at Abington. 15:53 and 5th at Bulldog. 16:48 and 12th at Foundation. Solid runner, ran for Salesianum last year.
Delete- Cummings, WC East
15:53 at Bulldog=16:30 at every other course
Delete15:53 at Bulldog is 16:30 at Lehigh, that's about it.
DeleteReilly, Gebhart, and Wilt all go head to head at their county championships on Tuesday. That race should tell us a little more about where they are in relation to the rest of the state.
ReplyDelete-GBC
Wow, Forrest, you are good! A well researched Top 50 AND an explanation for every position AND a Just Missed List AND a Removed From List. I like it!
ReplyDeleteToo bad he messed up with his survey of runners- Check out the Chesmont results!
DeleteNice list, but Cummings is top five, and Diestelow and Dages are legit top 50.
ReplyDeleteWell we know this guy is obviously from WCE
DeleteNot really. Both Diestelow and Dages are ahead of where Cummings and Diestelow were last year, and both ended up top 40 at states last year.
DeleteIf you put Dages in the top 50 you need to put DTW's top 4 and maybe fifth in there too and also Waltz, Moy, and possibly Swart, based off of the DTW, WCH, WCE tri-meet. I don't think Dages is top 50 though.
DeleteDages just destroyed at Tennent. And dual meets don't count, those courses are usually run through baseball fields and parking lots and are rarely accurate .
DeleteA tri meet vs. your cross town rival and the 2nd best team in your league has more value then a mediocre invitational.
DeleteThus the problem with going off of one meet. Dages beat the top 4 DTW boys at Abington, split at Bulldog, came in behind at the Tri-meet. Since then DTW has not raced well and Dages set a PR (which is the fastest time of the five).
DeleteSo how do you choose?
That Oakbourne course is a beast though. Not sure about Tennant but Bulldog is a joke as everyone on this site has posted.
DeleteOakbourne is tough, but not a beast. And it's said to be short too.
DeleteOakbourne is 3.04 miles according to Coach Kelly. It's a tough course. It should not be included in the Penntrack 5k rankings.
DeleteWhy not just extend it another 96 yards and make it legit?
DeleteI think Diestelow should be top 50.
ReplyDeleteVery excited to see Colin Martin above Ethan. Injury or not, Ethan hasn't proved he's ready to beat his brother since Colin won by roughly 20 seconds.
I think Stratman is Henderson's #3 and above Collins/Knapp. Collins/Knapp are very closely matched as well. Hopefully at Chesmonts this friday we can see just where everyone on Henderson is at. I'd also love to see Russell vs Cummings rematch. I believe Russell will win, but by how much is the question. Barchet also should be in the mix. I'd love to see a big race out of him. I wouldn't be surprise is that race isn't until Regionals/Nationals like last year though.
I don't think James turned it off because he knew he won, I think he turned it off because he knew he wasn't going to get the record... this year. Not saying he isn't a smart racer, because he is and a gutsy one, but just saying.
-RTJ
James wasn't even remotely close to the record.
DeleteThat's what I'm saying. The record was 15:30 something from what I've read and when he realized he wasn't going to get it he probably turned off the jets.
Delete-RTJ
Hallinan holds that record at 15:32 and it's not falling next year either.
DeleteI think Knapp is solidly WCH's #3 guy. Remember he fell at Carlisle and recovered nicely but he has consistently been in that top 3 pack for duals, hasn't he? And then depending on which way the wind is blowing #4 is Stratman or Collins. Waltz is looking solid and I still think Moy can more than get it done-he looked real strong at that track invite last week.
DeleteDiestelow answered his detractors today. OK it was a strategic race that wasn't run for time. He ran off Russel's right shoulder for most of the Chesmont race. He's lost to Knapp once at Oakbourne since 8th grade in head to head races and Stratman edged him at the finish line in a side by side finish. That top 50 material.........
DeleteHey don't forget about the Flying Weasel, he's a projected top 15 finisher at States in my book.
ReplyDeleteWho is the "Flying Weasel"?
ReplyDeleteSo based on rankings, North Allegheny over Henderson.
ReplyDeleteBen ritz here and i just dont understand why im not still ranked. I plan on coming back for fifth year. #wegonshockteworld #turnt
ReplyDeleteNice to see some D10 recognition for Jeremy Parsons. He is a legit top 5 in single A and very well could win it this year. Another one that should be on the list is Sebastian Curtain (Mercyhurst Prep). Looking forward to seeing those two go head to head for the first time this year at D10 this weekend.
ReplyDeleteWas at Tri-States and trust me, Benka is a top runner. Led most of the way in absolutely horrible conditions. If the Martins are top 10 (I agree), then Benka is easily top 25.
